Bamboo Mountain Turquoise Pendant, Lily Pond Design

Do you have the need to be close to nature? 

When I saw this piece of turquoise, it reminded me of a pond with lily pads & lotus.  So that's exactly what I designed on the back of the pendant and the bail!  The front of the pendant has a design that speaks to the petals of the lotus.

The pendant measures 2 inches from the top of the bail to the bottom and 1.32 inches at the widest point.  The chain is 20.25 inches and closes with a large lobster clasp.  I created decorative jump rings and they are soldered closed for security. All metal is .925 sterling silver, is marked and my initials on the back.

Buddhists consider the petals  of lotus to depict the opening of the heart. The flower represents our ability to come from a place of suffering into the light, much like the lotus, whose roots start in the muddy earth and rise up through the water to the light of the sun. This reminds us that we too can rise up from any difficult situation and reconnect to the light that surrounds us.

Bamboo Mountain is in the Hubei Province of China. It produces turquoise in colors reminiscent of the now closed mines in Nevada—and is often compared to the type produced from that area. Chinese turquoise may have started as a lesser-used stone in comparison to Persian turquoise or Egyptian turquoise but today the world looks to China for most of its supply for this increasingly valuable gemstone. And as the stones reserves and mines begin to diminish, the value will only continue to rise.
