Fossil Coral Long Earrings, Sterling Silver
Fossil Coral Long Earrings, Sterling Silver
Long, matching fossil coral cabochons are surrounded by .999 fine silver and soldered to .925 sterling silver sheet that I've patterned with an ocean scene onto the backs. I've created the sterling silver ear wires, as well. Fun, lightweight on the ears!
The earrings measure 2-5/8 inches from the top of the ear wire to the bottom and .54 inches at the widest.
Fossil Coral is a type of natural gemstone formed by ancient Corals. It’s name has been derived from ‘ agatized coral’ or ‘agatized fossil coral’ because during its formation, the coral remains were gradually replaced by the agate, a variety of natural chalcedony. It shouldn’t be mistaken with an endangered or protected reef coral or precious coral. It is generally a variety of agate rather than the coral due to the presence of silicon dioxide.
Coral deposits are mined and commercialized for their high calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium content for making health and drug supplements. It is also used in industrial fertilizers and water chemical filters because it can remove the impurities of the water.

Jewelry should not be subjected to lotions, sprays or any chemical, as damage to materials may result. If a light cleaning is needed, usually a soft, water dampened cloth will do the trick.
Items can be stored with an anti-tarnish strip or you can polish pieces with a Sunshine cloth. The more a piece is worn, the less it tarnishes due to body oils.
A person's body chemistry may cause changes to metals. Renaissance wax is a commonly used sealant to prevent these changes. My items are not sealed unless expressly stated in listing description.
