Fossil Coral Necklace with Artisan Ocean Elements
Fossil Coral Necklace with Artisan Ocean Elements
This gray flower fossil coral cabochon is polished on both sides and has such interesting characteristics that I had to design with that in mind. I made elements of branch coral, which ended up invoking mermaid feels, & the back cutout reminds me of a giant manta ray!
I created a patterned bail that compliments the ocean theme. The cabochon is surrounded by decorative patterned square wire, which is also part of the bail element. All material is .925 sterling silver except surrounding the cabochon, which is .999 fine silver. I've given the metal a tumbled, aged patina.
The pendant measures 1-5/8 inch from the top of the bail to the bottom (4.12cm) and is about 1-1/2 inch at the widest point (3.8cm). I've stamped the back with .925 and my maker's mark.
The chain is approximately 20 inches and closes with a large lobster clasp.

Care Instructions
Jewelry should not be subjected to lotions, sprays or any chemical, as damage to materials may result. If a light cleaning is needed, usually a soft, water dampened cloth will do the trick.
Items can be stored with an anti-tarnish strip or you can polish pieces with a Sunshine cloth. The more a piece is worn, the less it tarnishes due to body oils.
A person's body chemistry may cause changes to metals. Renaissance wax is a commonly used sealant to prevent these changes. My items are not sealed unless expressly stated in listing description.
